Free Online Word Count - counts words in PDF, HTML, XML, CSV, text files up to 1 Mb. Word Counter - another free online word counting service. This one can count the words in files up to 15 Mb for .doc, .docx, .pdf and .txt files. It counts standard words, Chinese/Japanese/Korean words, numeric words and non-standard and symbol words. Because of the non-standard and numeric words, the word count was actually higher in my test pdf document than the word count for the same document when converted to MS Word and counted there.
